Grant Benham

Service

I actively serve my department, college, university, and discipline. I served as IRB Chair for the university from 2005-2012, significantly streamlining the human subjects research approval process and leading the transformation of the IRB from a bureaucratic obstruction to a partner in the research process. In addition to my role as Faculty Advisor for our department’s two psychology student organizations, I have served on our university’s Faculty Research Council and Presidential Taskforce on Faculty Workload Policy and as Co-Chair of our institution’s Campus Wellness Taskforce. During 2010-2011, I served as Interim Assistant Dean for our college. In addition to serving as an ad-hoc reviewer for a number of journals, I currently serve as a member of the Psi Chi SouthWestern Region Steering Committee and have previously served as an officer of a national organization. In 2011, I was honored to receive the UTPA College of Social Behavioral Sciences Award for Service. Such service roles have allowed me to grow personally and to simultaneously contribute something meaningful to the university and community.

I also maintain a Facebook page on the topic of Mind-Body Research (see below)
